Bare Hands, Spring Soil, and the Scent of Geranium

The Ritual of Being in the Garden

There’s something grounding about being in the garden at this time of year. I’ve always been drawn to working with my hands, feeling the soil, noticing the subtle shifts in scent as everything starts to come back to life.

I’ve never been one for gardening gloves. Much to my husband’s frustration (he’s constantly threatening to buy me a pair), I’d rather risk the scratches from rose bushes than lose that connection. At this point, my hands often look like I’ve had a disagreement with our cat Alfie.

Where the Inspiration Begins

This is also the season when I find the most inspiration for my blends. Geraniums, just starting to come into their own, are a particular favourite. Their scent is not only beautifully balanced and uplifting, but the oil is known for supporting hormonal balance, easing stress, and helping to restore the skin.

The Reality of Daily Wear on Skin

The reality, though, is that gardening means constant washing and drying of hands. Soil, sap, pruning, planting, it all adds up. And over time, that takes its toll.

A More Considered Way to Care for Skin

That was one of the reasons behind creating Henley Naturals. I wanted a simple, natural way to care for skin that’s being washed repeatedly, without stripping it.

Our hand washes are designed to cleanse gently while retaining moisture, using essential oils that actively support the skin rather than dry it out. Followed with our lotion, it becomes a small but important ritual, restoring hydration, calming the skin and leaving a subtle, natural scent behind.

For me, it’s a balance. Staying connected to the garden, while making sure my hands don’t pay the full price for it.

Happy gardening
